Barcelona Still Owe Leo Messi €52M For The Deferred Payment Of Wages

Before the arrival of Joan Laporta to the presidency, Barcelona made a number of adjustments to the salaries of players to try and alleviate the complicated financial situation they found themselves.

A situation which worsened and has now led to the departure of Leo Messi.

Newspaper ‘Sport’ reveal that the Catalan club still owe the Argentine a sum of around 52 million euros, although this amount has nothing to do with his famous loyalty bonus. Instead, it involves the agreement which the club reached with the squad to lower their wages and the deferred payment of which would be made later.

Thus, Messi’s lawyers and Barcelona are now trying to negotiate that amount between this year and 2022. However, they will not only have to negotiate with the Argentine, but also the rest of the players who re-adjusted their salaries and accepted to earn the difference in the next few years.
