Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic opened up about his mental health, revealing that he seeked help from a therapist after losing his grandfather in the midst of the pandemic.

In an interview taken with the ‘Daily Star’, Pulisic encouraged all those who need it to go and see an expert.

Christian Pulisic is a player as young as he is important for Champions League winners Chelsea. In an interview taken with the ‘Daily Star’, the player opened up about mental health.

In the midst of the pandemic, Pulisic lost one of his most beloved family members – his grandfather, Mate Pulisic – and afterwards made the decision to see a specialist.

“It took me a while to realise that to speak up feels strong. I though that I was too tough to need help. When it’s all on you, it can really feel like a lot. Opening up, its a hard thing for a lot of people, as it was for me,” he recalled.

The winger revealed that he went to a psychologist and left a message for anyone going through similar problems: “I reached out to a therapist and that’s not something that anyone should ever be ashamed of. Covid times brought a lot of changes and things were happening in my life. I was lucky that people at Chelsea and the national team steered me in the right direction.”

When he was little, Pulisic spent a lot of time watching his grandfather play chess and he ended up learning himself. He plays with N’Golo Kante at Chelsea and had a tattoo of the queen paying homage to his beloved family member.

“It was my grandpa who taught me how to play when I was younger. I was nowhere near his level and I wish we’d played more but I’m glad we shared that,” he concluded.
