Man Utd isolation exemption rejected

The British government have rejected Manchester United’s request for elite sportsman isolation exemption for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo will now be forced to isolate for five days following his return from international duty with Portugal.

The good news for Man Utd fans however is that their new signing has left the Portugal camp early after his booking in his nation’s win over the Republic of Ireland. He is suspended for the World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan on 7th September and therefore not needed in the camp.

The new Man Utd man was admonished for his celebration of his 95th minute winner in the game – a game in which he bagged a brace and broke the record for the most goals in international football. Not a bad game for him, eh?

It’s been confirmed (via Manchester Evening News) that upon his return to England on Friday, Ronaldo will need to isolate for five days – as per government guidance when travelling from Portugal. The isolation period will mean that CR7 will join up with his teammates just three days before the Premier League meeting with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

It is still highly likely that Ronaldo will make his second debut for the club next Saturday, having already shown his match sharpness in Tuesday’s win over Ireland.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Ronaldo stated he was excited to don the red of Man Utd again:

“I have a fantastic history with this amazing club. I was there at 18 years old and of course I’m so happy to be back home after 12 years. So I’m really glad and looking forward to start my first game.

“I moved from Juve now to Manchester, it’s a new chapter, I’m so happy and glad, and I want to carry on again, to make history, to try to help Manchester achieve great results, to win trophies and number one of them, to win great things.”
