Newcastle transfer news: Statement addresses summer window

Newcastle have released a statement to their supporters explaining their minimal transfer activity during the 2021 summer window.

The Magpies were the least active club of any Premier League side, bringing in just two players who can expect to play any first team football this season.

Last season’s big loan success, Joe Willock, was signed from Arsenal on a permanent deal worth £25m, while forward Santiago Munoz was drafted in on deadline day on loan from Mexican outfit Santos Laguna.

But that was it for manager Steve Bruce, who was unable to get loan deals for Hamza Choudhury or Cameron Carter-Vickers over the line despite his best efforts. With supporters furious at the club’s lack of investment, Newcastle have now taken the unusual step of explaining their actions in a lengthy statement posted on their official website.
